Some bakery cake photos

Thanks for visiting Bakery Cakes.
This site is an homage to my love of bakery cakes. All cakes but especially bakery cakes. There's something delectable about that smell of butter that wafts into the air when you open a bakery cake box or enter a bakery. A bakery menu reads like a lice of heaven to me so opening a bakery was an easy decision. My passion for all things cake prompted me to led me to research the origins of decorated cakes. When did it all start?
Cake decorating can be tracked to the middle of the 17th century. At around the same time, not coincidentally I am sure, that cake pans in home kitchens became commonplace Northeastern Europe. Commencing in the middle of the 17th century, cake decorating became popular as to adorn the lavish buffets of only the most affluent citizenry. Though beautiful these early designs served primarily as garnish. Not until the middle of the 19th century did cake decorating became popular. At the same time French chefs began to serve the dessert as a final course to end the meal. This facilitated the increase of decorated pastries, most often cakes. And these desserts began appearing on banquet tables consistently. The innovation was the introduction of temperature controlled ovens during the 1840. During this same period of time is the arrival of baking powder and baking soda. These two developements makes baking cakes much easier. and the birth of the contemporary wedding cake bakery was soon to follow.

The rest is history. So now that we know how. Lets look at some of my favorite cakes from Imagicakes Bakery in Philadelphia.

A truly well decorated bakery cake is a joy to behold. Smooth lines, symetric designs and a beautiful aroma. Before we start showing the cakes lets touch on a bit of decorated cake history.

Decorated cakes can be tracked to the mid 17th century. At approximately the same time that cake pans started showing up in home kitchens throughout Northeastern Europe. Cake decorating became popular as adornments the lush buffets of only the richest aristocrats. At this time the desserts served primarily as display. Not until the middle of the 19th century did cake decorating become chic. This time mirrors the period that chefs began to serving the dessert as a separate course that was served at the close of a meal. Voila, intricately decorated pastries, usually cakes, began appearing on banquet tables consistently. Further spawning the cake decorating growth in the 1840's was the invention of temperature controlled ovens this was followed by the arrival of baking powder and baking soda. These two developments makes baking cakes a more consistent endeavor. Presently the easy availability of bakery supplies and information have made cake decorating world popular.
